You are ready to ride but your bike will not start. Consider performing a few simple steps, quite frequently the cause and the remedy are both very simple. First try starting your bike again, but pay attention to your starting procedure. Have your forgot to put up the sidestand? Is the bike in neutral? Modern bikes are equipped with safety lockouts to prevent starting your bike in gear and riding away with the sidestand down. Starting routines becomes second nature and sometimes even these simple steps are overlooked. If your bike still will not start the you need to determine if you are getting power to your starter. Turn on your bike and press the starter button. Does the starter turn? If yes does it turn at its normal speed? A slow cranking starter means that the starter is getting power, just not enough to start it. If all you get is a clicking noise, there is not enough power to activate the starter solenoid. Check that your battery is fully charged and the cables are clean and tight. Never jump start a bike with a car. The excessive current can be devastating to a bike's sensitive electronics. The next check is the fuel supply. Check the level visually just in case your gauge is not working correctly. For those of you with fuel petcocks do not assume that all of the fuel in the tank is usable. The bottom of the tank is where sediment and water collects. This often does not cause a problem until the tank is almost empty. If your starter turns normally and you ahve a full tank of gas your bike should start. If your bike still does not start you may have other problems. Components that might still be at fault are clogged carburetors or fuel injectors, an inoperable fuel pump, or ignition system.
